Designed for digital content creators and users, the mobile workstation's digitizer helps them easily configure an image, either mapping it to the entire screen or to an area defined by the user.

High performance users, especially digital photographers, will benefit from models with the built-in color calibrator as color continues to play an important role in their work.

The calibrator automatically adjusts the display's color in up to half the time of many external calibrators and with higher accuracy, resulting in the most accurate, true-to-life images in an integrated package.

The Lenovo ThinkPad W700 Notebook [27523KU] features 4 GB of RAM and two 320 GB hard drives.

Acer Aspire 6930G-6723

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 161px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TqnLJC5G6pU/SeGJzvNgxCI/AAAAAAAAAOg/_rsgjLX7aUE/s320/Acer+Aspire+6930G-6723.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323687756468110370" />Widescreen notebook computers all over the world are now undergoing significant transformation. The transition you find is from 16.10 to 16.9 displays in the widescreen notebook. Reasons for such transition are that these panels are cheaper and their aspect ratio is also largely consistent with the HDTVs used by the end users.

Among all the leading lap top computer manufacturers, Acer was the first to avail the opportunity of the new screen format suggested by the LCD companies. As a first step Acer launched Aspire 4920G-6071. It was 16 inch size media center laptop that became popular instantly around the world. However, the model quickly went out of market and lost its popularity and preferences to a large extent in the process.

This brought into fore the next model brought up by Acer. It was the Aspire 6930G-6723, the model about which this review is written. Basic objective of this model was to provide those who did not avail the benefits of the previous model, the excellence of the new widescreen notebook lap top. The version has some similarity with the previous version like both have Blu-ray reader. The best part of it is that the price is highly affordable. Another very attractive feature is the 3D game play that is saddled with updated Nvidia graphics card. People who are home theater enthusiast will certainly appreciate the rich features of the new model. In terms of value the new notebook edition is highly affordable at the price of approximately thousand dollars.

Another feature that is a continuation of the previous models is the Acer chassis that is the same in 6930G model as it was in the previous model. It has highly polished blue exterior. That is one of the reasons why the brand series is known as Gemstone Blue. The design is quite attractive and it complements the barrel hinge. However, it fails to conceal the bulk of the machine. Of course it is not one of the heaviest of the machines among the 16 inch models. The weight is around 7.2 pounds. In comparison the Gateway MC7803 earns the distinction of the heaviest machine among the widescreen notebook computers.

End users however may feel that the machine is not as slim as the 6.8 pound HP HDX16t. Moreover, the blue colors may require some improvement. Perhaps the designs that are automotive inspired like that of the MC7803u could be a better choice. However when you take into consideration all the features that is available in the 6930G, you will tend to overlook the slight disadvantage of the bulk of the machine.

It does not mean that the 16.9 inch widescreen laptop notebook computer is something out of the world. Perhaps this would be the model that would be flooding the market during the year 2009. The essence is that you are getting wider screens that would be matching the HDTV held by the users. The added advantage for you is that the new 16.9 widescreen notebook computers come at comparatively lower price than the 16.10 model.

So far as the resolution is concerned, the 6930’s resolution is 1366/768 is WXGA or the minimum resolution that is required on the size of screen it holds. If you compare this 6930 model with its bigger counterpart 8920G produced by Acer, you may find that it does not carry a complete 1080 pixel resolution like the later. You should not however think that this will in any way reduce the efficiency in terms of screen resolution of 6930G. The 720 pixel resolution is quite handy for the screening and display of high definition movies. The photos and other images produced by it are of excellent quality. The best part of it is however the keyboard which is easy and convenient for typing and gives you excellent feelings. In comfort the keyboard matches the HDX16t and in use it has the upper hand since it has bigger numeric keypad.

Compared to its price, the features of the new 6930G seem a gift from the heaven. It also takes a march over its competitors in the same vein. The main configuration includes the Blu-ray. In result the system can now play movies and burn CDs and DVDs conveniently using its Blu-ray drive. There is also the HDMI port that can enhance your movie viewing experience in case the 16 inch screen seems smaller to you. The port can enable larger display. You also have four USB ports. One of these ports works an additional eSATA port so that you can conveniently expand your storage capabilities.

Of course the unit does not have any Fire Wire expansion card, and WWAN, or any extra USB ports. It also does not have the TV tuner and such other peripherals. The disadvantage is somewhat compensated with the fact that while the comparatively higher priced HDX16t carries 250 GB Hard Disk, the 6930G contains 320 GB hard disk drive. The hard disk drive capabilities match perfectly with the Sony VAIO VGN FW198UH as well as the Gateway MC78-3u. Double speaker and subwoofer at the base make the sound system extremely powerful and at the same time well controlled. This results in sound that is always sweet to your ear.

Processor used in the new 6930G may not be the best in the market. However, the 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 is quite competent to perform the required task. It can perform multiple tasks like video and photo recording, editing, and also ripping the MP3d. To add to this you can also watch HD movies using the processor. The 4GB memory of the processor is an added advantage. It is quite compatible with the Windows Vista 64 bit operating systems. You can play casual games with in built Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS graphics card. The device is faster compared to its predecessor model.

You might consider that the SYSmark 2008 Preview score achieved by 6930G falls short in comparison to its competitors HDX16t and Sony FW198U. The two models outscore 6930G by 43% and 39% respectively. It also fell short of the two models in terms of video encoding as well as the CineBench R10 tests. Yet on overall consideration, these deficiencies may not deter the end users from preferring the 6930G. The main reasons for this is that the 6930G is a budget model and come much cheaper compared to both HP and Sony models though not falling much behind in terms of efficiency.

Whatever the case might be, the 6930G was certainly an improvement over its predecessor 6920G. The only thing that did not improve substantially was the battery life. While the battery life of the earlier model was at an average of three hours and forty two minutes, the 6930G recorded battery life of around three hours and twenty minutes. However, in all other aspects the new model 6930G scores over its earlier version 6920G.

At its budget price and all the features that makes Acer aspire 6940G-6723 so much desirable that it could have caused easily the ouster of all other models from the market. This however, was not the case because the availability of the model could never reach the desired model. In fact the supply is much less compared to the demand. The model is now sold in the online stores only. However, will all its plus points it has been able to regain the ranking in editor’s choice which its predecessor had lost due to non-availability. Of course it has not the premier ranking of HDX16t, a much more expensive model, in the editor’s choice rankings. But it is one of the most desirable models for the average customer if not for anything else, for the price alone.

Specification:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 (2 GHz)
Screen Size: 16" (diagonal).
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 9600M GS
Weight: 7.2 lbs.
Memory: 4GB RAM
Hard Disk Capacity: 320 Gigabytes
Ports: 4 USB, 1 DC Power Input 1 RJ-11 Modem, 1 RJ-45 Network
Networking: Wireless, Ethernet, WiFi

Asus G71G-Q1

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 248px; height: 225px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TqnLJC5G6pU/SeGJFV-4SCI/AAAAAAAAAOY/byNKkwLKFik/s320/Asus+G71G-Q1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323686959421868066" />As the number of computer gamers is growing day by day, the manufacturing companies are coming up with new inventions to match the requirements and demands of their customers. No one is satisfied to day with the stale card games or some routine games that are mostly in built in the operating systems and they are always on the look out for new and exciting games. Those who are always on the move and use laptops, wish their laptop to allow them play new games with newest features.

They download the games from the net, or use the CDs and DVDs available in plenty and also coming free as add on to the computer magazines in the market. The ASUS G71G-Q1 is the answer to their requirements. Catering to the requirements of their customers, ASUS G71G – Q1 has come up with features not found ordinarily in its counterparts. It has come up with one of the fastest processors and many other supporting features.

At a cost of $2,000 the features provided are quite interesting and absorbing. The Intel quad-core processor with the Blu-ray reader as well as cavernous hard drives makes it a near total package. This does not mean that there is no downside. The machine keeps you wanting on the graphics front. True, the Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS card is one of the best gaming cards in the market. But today there are other systems that can deliver even higher frame rates and they do not cost a dime more either. Another drawback of ASUS G71G-Q1 is that it suffers from the genuine weight problem that haunts most of the gaming laptops.

While it uses fast parts as well as the 17-inch wide screen, it is not as light as the Apple MacBook Pro17 inch (Unibody) that weights only 6.1 pounds and is very friendly for the bearer. At 9.1 pounds the ASUS G71G-Q1 is much heavier in comparison though it is lighter than the Alenware M17 and also the CyberPower M1 that weights at 9.4 and 9.6 pounds respectively. You have a lighter alternative in MSI GT627-218US that comes around 6.1 pounds using identical graphic cards though not the big 17 inch screen of G7G-Q1.

In terms of design and appearance ASUS G71G-Q1 takes a march over its counterparts like CyberPower MI. You may get a few fingerprints and smudges on the glossy black top. However the appearance is still extremely attractive. Performance wise you may yet prefer the Alienware M17 that has a matte and rubber like finish. In result it easily wards of smudges and fingerprints. Similarly, the red and fiery appearance of the Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725 would appeal to gamers who prefer such bright and glaring appearance. MSI on the other hand adopts a sober approach. It uses the GT627-218US red highlights sparingly along the sides.

On the other hand you will find generous red accents throughout the interior of ASUS G71G-Q1. It surrounds both the keyboard and the sides of the laptop. It also follows the pattern of the Dell xPS M1730 (Penryn), developing the gaming features with LED lights. You find blue LED studded on the lid, around the laptop and also the touch pad. The same Blue LED touches are found on the front bezel corners as well as in the multimedia buttons in the machine.

You will find these LEDs in the keyboard and it may disappoint you. The keyboard of ASUS G71G-Q1 does not have illumination as in case of Alienware M17 and CyberPower M1. Save this deficiency it is good keyboard. It has full size as well as solid foundation. They can easily withstand the constant pounding of the easily frustrated gamers. You also have a numeric keypad that is good for serial codes. It lies next to the main keyboard. This feature is nothing unique. Most of the gaming laptop has such keyboards these days.

The mouse buttons are draped with aluminum and they wrap around the touch pad though all may not find it very alluring and some even may consider it a bit resistive. One best thing about ASUS G71G-Q1 is its feature sets. It is something that the gamers would lust for and the price at around $2,000 is quite affordable and attractive. There is the built in Blu ray reader. This is a handy feature since such features on M1 or M17 will result in the increase in the price of the laptop to a much higher level in comparison to the ASUS G71G-Q1.

Another plus point for the ASUS G71G-Q1 is the screen resolution of 1920 X 1200. The two port covers that are unique on the gaming laptops have four USB ports as well as one Fire Wire port. This makes it very adaptable for the high humidity zones. There are also other uncovered ports such as the HDMI out, eSATA, VGA out as well as the Ethernet. They are all located at back of the system.

In terms of the storage capacity the ASUS G71G-Q1 has got 640 GB in form of dual hard disc drives. Each of the drive has 320GB space. It is higher than M17, M1, and the X305-Q725. The best part of it is that ASUS G71G-Q1 gives you two years global warranty as against the standard one-year warranty. Those who are enthusiastic about the performance may not be elated about the quad core processor. The 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Q9000 is already a part of other gaming laptops such as the Toshiba X305-Q725 and also the Acer Aspire aS8930-7665. However the quad core processor is at least 20 percent faster as proved in the Video encoding test and this is better than the M1 and M17 dual core processors. The memory stands at 6 GB for the ASUS G71G-Q1 and it is nearly twice the memory of M17. Apart from this the G71G also carries a little advantage in Photoshop features, The performance tests were positive and ASUS G71G-Q1b fared better on the CineBench R10 tests.

It seems that the designers clearly preferred the processors to the graphic cards in making the laptop more powerful. The same Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS could be available in cheaper systems. The $1,000 MSI GT627-218US has one for instance. It cannot be overlooked that it is the graphics features that determines the good running of the games on any system. Especially 3D intensive games will run well with the advanced graphics features alone. In this regard both Alienware and the CyberPower took an interesting step. They cut down the processor powers in favor of higher graphics features. Their processors may be midrange, but their graphic features are excellent. The dual graphics card of ATI Radeon HD 3870 gave higher scores on 3Dmark06 in comparison to the ASUS G71G-Q1.

These deficiencies in graphics feature were made up with the superiority of the ASUS G71G-Q1 in conflict and crisis management tests. While in the native resolutions both Toshiba X305-Q725 and the Alienware M17 had the advantage in superior resolutions they came second to G71G. The heat that comes out of the processor and the graphics cards as well as the high fan speed required for addressing it was something beyond the capabilities of the 75Wh battery used by ASUS G71G-Q1. The battery life at Mobile Mark 2007 test with result of one hour 45 minutes were less than impressive. Yet when the features like 6GB memory, Blu ray reader and the two years warranty is considered, ASUS G71G-Q1 ranks among the best in the market.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000
Screen Size: 17".
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 9800M GS
Weight: 9.1 lbs.
Memory: 6GB RAM
Hard Disk Capacity: 640 Gigabytes

Useful For: Hardcore gamers

Sony VAIO VGN-SZ791N

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 218px; height: 187px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_TqnLJC5G6pU/Sck3oEcjKJI/AAAAAAAAANs/RBr5HYpn-BI/s320/Sony+VAIO+VGN-SZ791N.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316841996615362706" />Travelers and businessmen usually need laptop with good performance and longer battery life. Thanks to Sony, now there is a better choice than MacBook Air and other ultraportable laptops. Sony VAIO VGN-SZ791N is the perfect combination of an ultraportable laptop with good performance, nice specification, and long battery life.

With 4GB RAM memory, Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5 GHz), and nVidia GeForce 8400M GS, Sony VAIO VGN-SZ791N is probably the first ultraportable laptop that can play almost all heavy PC games. Of course you need a better graphics card to play fantastic games such as Crysis but this is the best ultraportable laptop so far. Surprisingly, VGN-SZ791N has better battery life than most VAIO laptops. With more than 5 hours battery life, VGN-SZ791N surpasses its competitors such as MacBook Air.

VGN-SZ791N also surprises the world with the integrated Sprint EV-DO Rev A cellular modem. There are not many ultraportable laptops which have broadband connectivity but Sony apparently knows what travelers need. Yep, a broadband internet access. However, VGN-SZ791N also has several weak points. For example, this laptop only has two USB ports. The price tag ($2,449-$2,800) is also another thing that you need to reconsider.

Specification:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5 GHz)
Screen Size: 13.3" (diagonal)
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 8400M GS
Weight: 3.9 lbs.
Memory: 4GB RAM
Hard Disk Capacity: 250 Gigabytes
Ports: USB
Networking: Ethernet, Wi-Fi
Useful For: Multimedia professionals, gamers

Alienware Area-51 m15x

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 207px; height: 196px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TqnLJC5G6pU/Sbf5Um6VmaI/AAAAAAAAALo/eKTg1YlNN9c/s320/Alienware+Area-51+m15x.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311988417944721826" />Well, it's such a honor for me to test the new Alienware Area-51 m15x. Alienware laptops are well known for their beautiful design and strong performance. It's not surprising to see Alienware is not a kind of brand for everyone because Alienware always created its laptops for gamers. Of course Area-51 m15x is also one of these gaming laptops.

This laptop is very expensive (around $4,500) but you won't be disappointed. Similar with Dell XPS M1730, Alienware Area-51 m15x also uses LEDs for its design (but Alienware is better and more stylish). You can shift the colors by controlling the Alienware Command Center software. For example: you can switch the color for your keyboard to red and use green color for your touchpad, etc.

The casing design in overall looks pretty awesome. It's as unique as previous Alienware Area-51 laptops. The Alien symbol, as usual, can be found on the back of the laptop. There are also bluetooth and WiFi button which both are connected to the Alienware Command Center software. A unique speedometer feature also steals my attention.

Don't ever doubt the specification of each Alienware laptop. Area-51 m15x uses Intel Core 2 Duo X9000, 4GB RAM memory, massive 200GB hard disk capacity, and beautiful nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX as its graphics card. The good thing is, Alienware Area-51 m15x is 2.2 pounds lighter than most gaming laptops. Of course the most negative part is its price. Will you spend more than $4,000 only for a laptop?

Specification:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo X9000 (2.8 GHz)
Screen Size: 15.4" (diagonal)
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX
Weight: 7.8 lbs.
Memory: 4GB RAM
Hard Disk Capacity: 200 Gigabytes
Ports: 3 USB
Networking: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, bluetooth
Useful For: hardcore gamers

Fujitsu Lifebook P8010

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 215px; height: 195px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TqnLJC5G6pU/Sbf4XLQ7OFI/AAAAAAAAALg/Tv2V2JQUGdw/s320/Fujitsu+Lifebook+P8010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311987362551248978" />LifeBook P8010 breaks some limits for its predecessors. Different with the earlier P series, P8010 is lighter, has better design, bigger size, and longer battery life (over 5 hours). Its price tag may be looks expensive ($1,800) and the performance may be looks not convincing enough, but if you are looking for a reliable ultraportable laptop, of course P8010 should be on your list.

The most unique thing from this laptop is its weight. Despite P8010’s size is 11.2”x8.4”x1.4”, but amazingly its weight is less than 3 pounds. However, Fujitsu has sacrificed a lot of things to make this thing happen. P8010 only uses Intel Core 2 Duo L7100 (1.2 GHz) and the storage capacity is not bigger than 120 GB. Well, you should think twice because this laptop’s performance is not strong enough for $1,800 in your pocket.

Well, I always prefer laptop with big and comfortable keyboard. If you are just like me, maybe you’ll agree that the keyboard in P8010 is not good enough. But if you never consider this as a big problem, then let forget this thing. About additional features, P8010 puts dual-layer DVD burner, 3 USB ports, 1 FireWire port, 1 fingerprint reader, and four-in-one card reader.

Specification:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo L7100 (1.2 GHz)
Monitor: 12.1" (diagonal)
Graphics card: Intel GMA X3100
Weight: 2.8 pounds.
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Hard Disk Capacity: 120 Gigabytes
Useful For: Businessmen, travelers

Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 275px; height: 250px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TqnLJC5G6pU/SbPmPZCHbhI/AAAAAAAAAJo/rF0ypdL4FEk/s320/Toshiba+Qosmio+X305-Q725.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5310841537692134930" />The latest product from Toshiba, the Qosmio X305-Q725 has a fiery design. It may not be liked by all. However certain features would be the dream of any gamer. If you consider the quad-core processor that is super fast and Nvidia GTX graphics card that is rich and delightful, you will agree that it is the dream come true for gamers. The device runs with Intel Quad-core processor and the Nvidia 9800 GTX graphics card.

The performance is efficient and the machine integrates both spinning drives and solid state drives. The features are really excellent for gaming purposes. However you may feel a little let down with the resolution and the battery size those do not match with its price tag.

Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725 is not for the tame average gamer. It is for the fierce competitors. Especially if you consider the price of $2700 the gaming excellence may not be worthwhile unless you are an avid gamer. The designs are a bit outlandish in nature, akin to fiery flames striking a wall that itself is red hot, are fit for some dedicated fighters. The two differentiating features, the Intel quad core processor, and Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTX are the silver linings for the otherwise bit heavier computer at 9.2 pounds. While performance wise it is quite efficient, there are cheaper versions in the market that are equally useful for gaming scores.

All gamers may not prefer the elegance and appearance as basis of their choice of laptops. For those who do not care much for the looks, Gateway P-171XLFX could be a better choice. Similarly the Gothic lovers may find the Dell XPS M1730 the ultimate choice. Many gamers are quite fascinated by the stylish and subtle designs presented by Alienware M17. The fiery design of X305 is not only for colorful personalities but they are daring and the appearance is such that it could please the greatest eccentric in the world. The surface is so well polished and smooth that it is possible to see your own image through the flaming red exterior.

It is not only the exterior of X305 that presents a fiery theme. The same fiery intensity extends to the interior as well. Though it does not go beyond the borders of the 17 inch wide screen, speaker grilles, and the area beyond the keyboard, the effect is noticeable. However there are no LED lights that would constantly shift the colors. In this regard the Dell M1730 is ahead of Qosmio. The X305 is also thick and heavy though at 9.4 pounds the Alienware M17 is a bit heavier. Dell M1730 once again leads the foray at 10.7 pounds being the heaviest.

In comparison to the Alienware M17, the 17 inch LCD screen is equally large and bright as well. It also matches the Gateway P-171XLFX in this regard. The screen resolution stands at 1680 X 1050 pixels is not as good and advanced as the Alienware or Gateway since both these laptops carry screen resolution of 1920 X 1200. They cost less but provide better views than the X305. Keyboards in the Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725 is full size and a carry over from the Toshiba Satellite lines. They are pleasant experience for the users.

The difference lies in a numeric keypad towards the right side that is quite handy for entering anything like the serial code or the number crunching. In result of this additional keyboard, the touchpad slips further left and is centered with the keyboard. The difficulty is that when you type your left palm may rest on a speaker grille while the right hand will have more than enough space.

Best part of Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725 is the sound. There are as many as four speakers above as well as below the keyboard. Also a subwoofer is located at the lower part of lap top. The sound experience is exotic and phenomenal. It also provides all the single connectivity ports you can conceive of. Thus you have four USB ports including the one that doubles to perform the task of eSATA port helping out the storage expansion schemes. Every other port including the Fire Wire port, HDMI out, VGA out, Ethernet port is all there. The notable absence is the Blu-ray drive, perhaps an outcome of the HD DVD debacle experienced recently by Toshiba. You have to content with the dual level DVD drive.

This of course is another area where the X305 falls behind Dell M1730 and Alienware 17 as both of them offer Blu-ray drives. This is essential to take your cinematic experiences to a new level. This deficiency is somewhat compensated when you find that unlike the only spinning drives provide by Alienware with 160GB and Gateway with 400 GB space, Toshiba Qosmio provides a 320 GB spinning drive as well as 64 GB solid state drive. However the providing of 384 GB of twin Hard Drives is one reason for Qosmio being expensive.

Like Acer Aspire AS8930-7665, the Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725 uses 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 processor. In group these processors cost less in comparison to the Extreme processor used by both Dell M1730 and Gateway M-171XLFX. Yet there is no deterioration of performances in comparison. Another plus point for Qosmio is that it has 4 GB DDR 3 memories. This resulted in beating Gateway and Alienware by 35 and 37 percent respectively on the video encoding scoring. And on CineBench R10 the scores were 63 and 70 percent higher respectively.

When you consider the overall performance the X305 holds advantage over both Alienware M17 as well as the Gateway P-171XLFX. On gaming score however the Qosmio was behind the Gaming scores of M17. The reason is that the later uses dual ATI Radeon 3870 CrossFire Graphic card. The GeForce 9800 GTM used by X305 was inferior in comparison. Similarly when it came to low resolution testing on 3D Mark 06 scores, X305 was behind M17 by 8%. Similarly on 3DMark 06 native resolution it trailed M17 by 17%. Even in the Crysis benchmark scores, M17 beat the X305 of Toshiba in a close contest. Of course these scores are relevant for the avid gamers only and not for the common users. However when it came to single card system for graphics, X305 scored over both Gateway and Alienware. The reason is that it uses the latest Nvidia GTX card.

One of the demerits of the Toshiba Qosmio X305-725 is that with the high heat generation, the battery life suffers considerably. Moreover Toshiba has not put on the largest battery for the purpose either. The 58Wh battery is smaller compared to the Apple MacBook Pro 17 that uses 95 Wh, Gateway P 171XLFX and Alienware M17, both of whom use 90Wh batteries. On the MobileMark 2007, the score of Qosmio was only 1 hour and 32 minutes, even less than Gateway that scored 1 hour and 32 minutes. The battery provided by Toshiba is a sad mismatch for the laptop with such price tag.

Despite all the drawbacks and apparently at times irritable fiery designs the Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725 consists of several parts that are of high quality. Its performance matches its fiery looks. The best feature of the Qosmio is its integration of Intel mobile quad-core processors with the Nvidia graphics card that is very powerful. It could not however match the gaming performance and versatility of the Alienware M17 that continues to be many people’s choice for better performance alone.

Specification:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000
Screen Size: 17"
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 9800M GTX
Weight: 9.2 lbs
Memory: 4GB RAM
Hard Disk Capacity: 384 Gigabytes
Useful For: Gaming, media

LCD Touch Screen Monitors

We've all seen LCD touch screens at work around us. Anyone that's ever used their credit or debit card to make a purchase at the grocery store has to swipe their card through a reader and then use a pen to select and sign the signature line on a touch screen. Versions that are more sophisticated can be found in Photo Centers that allow consumers to print their own pictures or create Christmas cards from disks or memory cards found in your local Longs or Target stores. However, the LCD touch screen is beginning to make inroads into other areas, as well.

One of the first companies consumers think of when the "touch screen" is mentioned is Apple. Their familiar items such as the apple ipod touch and the apple iPhone use a touch screen to allow the user to navigate without the need for buttons or trackballs. This is not the limit of their uses, though. The home computer market is now seeing a number of computers available with LCD touch screen functionality.

How does an LCD touch screen work? In essence, it is no different than using a mouse or the touch pad on your laptop, though touching your monitor screen may seem counterintuitive to many consumers (after all, don't we go to great lengths to keep our fingerprints off them?). Touch screen monitors essentially look like regular LCD monitors but are equipped with additional features. Basically, a touch screen is actually just another piece of hardware. A thin film of touch sensitive lamination (clear) is placed over the computer monitor; this is then wired into the computer. The pressure from your finger is transformed into an electric signal, which is then sent to the CPU.

There are two main types of touch screen monitors on the market today: add on systems and built in systems. Built in systems come ready to use in the box, just plug them in and go; though you will most likely need to install the software drivers first, if your system was not designed to use a touch screen. Add on systems are installed by the consumer over their existing computer monitor and then plugged into an accessory outlet on the computer. Once again, device drivers are required to tell the computer how to recognize the signals.

Touch screen monitors like the iPod touch and iPhone will be affordable for the average consumer while POS (point of sale) touch screen monitors will be geared more towards businesses. And how can we forget to mention the glamorous touch screen displays as seen on CNN and ESPN? Yes, those are very large touch screen monitors. I'm sure you saw one in use during this year's election when CNN used it to track the Democratic and Republican States. These gigantic displays just mentioned will only be affordable, and needed, by a few.

There are a number of popular manufacturers creating these devices today. Some of the most popular are Planar, GVision, Megavision, NEC and HP. Do your research, regardless of the brand that you choose, though. User forums and reviews can give you the information you need to make a good purchase in a device that will perform well for years to come. If you are a small business to medium sized business, make sure you check for discounts.

The Xerox Phaser 850 - A Versatile Printer For Everyone

Often, someone will need a handy, efficient printer that can handle all of their needs without much of a delay. Or have you lost track of your thoughts while you are writing an important email or an article and the cursor keeps jumping on your screen? It is then that you realize it is time to give your computer mouse a good cleaning! But how do you go about this task and what's involved?

Before you start cleaning, shut down your computer system and remove the mouse from your computer. In case of a wireless mouse, simply powering off the PC will be good enough. Pick up the mouse and flip it onto your palm. Rotate the ball cover until the cover and the mouse ball fall off. Usually this will be counterclockwise to open, but it depends on the brand.

An optical mouse on the other hand, does not require frequent cleaning as it works on small lasers and does not have balls or rollers to track movement. Use a soft cloth to clean the mouse ball, place the ball aside once clean, ensuring the surrounding is clean, too, as pieces of hair and dust attach to it easily. Now, if you look inside the mouse, you will find three rollers, two of these help translate the movement into instructions for the computer, so the cursor can move around your computer screen. The third roller helps in balancing the ball inside the mouse. Use a tissue or cloth with some cleansing fluid to clean these rollers. Use a mini drier to blow the rollers dry once you have finished wiping them with the fluid. Place the ball back in, and close. Reconnect the mouse to your PC and turn the power back on.

Check if you are able to move the mouse by moving the cursor in a circular motion around your screen. If the movement is easy, then sit back and continue with your work. If your mouse still does not work, check if the computer connection is secure and if the ball cover was placed properly. If the problem persists, call a technician and have it checked.

The next time your mouse starts hassling you while working on your computer, just follow the instructions given here and you can continue with your work, with no further problems. Frequent cleaning and maintenance will keep you computer and its peripherals running in top condition for a long time!

How to Install Computer Memory (RAM) Quickly and Easily

An easy computer upgrade is adding computer memory (RAM). Memory for computer systems is cheap to buy and easy to install even for someone with no technical skill. Once you've bought the correct RAM, installation takes mere minutes.

Static Destroys Electronics

Before opening the case, turn off the system and unplug it. Household electricity is dangerous and working on a computer that is plugged in endangers not just the electronics but also your safety. Many people don't realize that components are more likely to be damaged by a seemingly innocuous static shock. Static electricity is harmful to electronics! A jolt too small for you to feel is still strong enough to destroy delicate memory for computer systems.

It's important to discharge any static before reaching into the computer. This can be done by touching the metal of the computer's internal casing before reaching into the case. You should do this every time you reach in because static charges can build up quickly; even turning to pick up a memory module can build up a small charge. To be safer, invest $10 in an antistatic strap that connects to the metal case.

Installing Your Computer Memory

New memory for computers comes in an anti-static bag. When you open the bag to remove the memory, touch the module by the edges and avoid touching the electronics themselves. Salts from your hands can cause shorts in the tiny circuits.

Installing the memory involves simply sliding the module into an open slot. Memory for computers is shaped to prevent you from installing backwards or upside down. You may have to exert some pressure to get the memory to snap in, but if you are having difficulty, don't force it -- double check that you are inserting in correctly.

You may need to remove an old memory card before installing the new memory for your computer. The old modules are held in with clips that automatically snap closed to hold it secure. Spread the clips and the old memory module pops out automatically.

Test New Computer Memory

Once the memory is in, close the case and turn the computer on. On some computers, you can see the memory test before the Windows screen appears and verify that it shows the correct RAM total. Others hide this operation but you can verify the new memory by right clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties."

If the RAM capacity is not showing, shut down Windows and turn off the computer. Open the case and double check that all memory modules are firmly secured. If they do seem secure try moving the new memory to a different slot and repeating the step again. If the computer still doesn't see the new memory or reports an error, you may have defective modules. It happens now and then so contact the vendor for a replacement.

When the computer memory is correctly installed, you will likely see an immediate increase in computer speed. Insufficient memory for computers is one of the leading causes of slow performance and an upgrade can breathe new life into your system.

Basic Information About Your Hard Drive

The hard drive is one of the most important components of the computer as it stores all the information and without it the computer cannot function. Without hard drives, there would be no World Wide Web, email or operating systems because they all reside on it.

There are various things that may cause a hard drive to crash. One reason is because of corrupt registry files, system files, and viruses. A virus come in different forms as emails, especially spam, spy ware, and downloads from the web and many other places. This is why it is recommended that one of the important things to do after acquiring a new PC is to install anti-virus software to prevent viral attacks and reduce chances of hard disk crashing.

A hard drive may also crash due to problems with the hardware. The hard drive contains sensitive internal components such as a magnetic disk, an actuator arm, the read/ write head and other components. For example, the read/write head hovers very close to but not touching the disk. If the actuator arm happens to break and the read/ write head touches the disk. The hard disk will be destroyed and thus, a hard disk crash has occurred. Another cause of damage could be overheating where the drive may overheat, causing various components to expand and touch other component. This may be physically experienced as sounds coming from the hard drive when the disk is spinning.

So your hard disk has failed and you cannot access your information. What next?
It all depends with the kind of damage. If the damage is software-based, then data recovery software can be used to try and retrieve your information. There are some simple do-it-yourself data recovery software that can be used to retrieve your data. But if the damage is mechanical, it advisable to send the hard drive to a reputable data recovery company so that a proper diagnosis is done to try and retrieve as much information as possible. Seeking the professional advice of a data specialist could save you a lot, both financially and with regard to time.
